I’ve had this idea for years. Actually ever since before I got Sigrun (but after I’d ordered her). I did a painting of her where she was riding a snow horse, so… yeah. Unfortunately I suck at ‘sculpting’ snow and the horse is more like a foal with weird proportions. And it’s tilted. I might re-do this some day or not. But I do like the Sigrun close ups here. It was really windy so her wig was flying and it gave this little extra “oomph” to the photos. :D
I also have a new doll (my grail DD I never thought I’d get), but I haven’t been able to afford to order wigs or think about eyes and I don’t know when she’ll have a body of her own or anything so, we’ll see when I introduce her. It’s not like she can’t borrow wigs but the eyes are a little more problematic. Especially because I’d like her to be at least half-demon and I want specific eyes for her which are nearly impossible to find at the moment. >_>
But anyway, Sigrun photos:
Finally continuation to Iria’s story. I thought I did the first one last year, but apparently it was two years ago, oops. This one picks up right where that left off, though. And it ended up really long. Hopefully with minimal mistakes, but I’ve been working on the texts all day today (on and off) so my brain is kind of dead now.
But god, I so need to get a pair of normal hands from Souldoll when I next order from them (I wonder when that’ll be). Because it looks like her fingers are cramping in a lot of these. Gosh, I shouldn’t have cared that I already have several of the old style pairs: they’re the only ones that can actually do stuff naturally.
The woman was standing awkwardly in an unfamiliar room. They’d had their introductions just a moment before outside, after which she had taken off her outer garments in order to accomodate for the warmth of the house.
So, after yesterday’s doll meet myself, tursaantarha, Petunia & umizya headed to this stream called Korkeakoski (literally: high rapids) which is very close to the tea house. I’ve wanted to shoot here for a long time but it’s quite far from my home and not close to any other place I usually go to, so this was a great chance. Though, I would’ve been much happier with rubber boots and the doll I had planned on taking here in the first place. But this was a good preview to what I could do if I get to come back some time.
I got wet, my feet were on ice (took off my shoes and socks) and Yami got wet too. But there were wild raspberries we picked before the shoot so that was nice. xD I also only had a few poses and there weren’t too many possible angles without freezing my feet completely in the ice water so yeah. Some day I’ll go there again. ♥
Been feeling like taking some doll photos lately. I also have an idea for a story (Iria) but I’m not sure how to go about making it happen. It would require props I don’t have so I might need to improvise. But anyway, Sebille (and Null as a bonus) was my victim today. I’m loving her with her new(ish) Withdoll body and I’ve made her quite a bit of new clothes lately, so she gets to be in front of the camera too ♥
As this is a Sebille/Null shoot, it was given that it would derail at some point… and it did. It took me quite a while to move all my props to the balcony and set up and then I spent nearly 2 hours photographing. Would’ve been at it longer had the sun not started to give me trouble. And of course it got cloudy and started raining just as I was taking the set down. Sigh. =__=
(^ of independence)
I’m missing some seaside Saya photos from inbetween but I’ll post them eventually. I should go to my local beach with her soon, so maybe I’ll post those with the new ones -if I manage a shoot.
Today I’ll be posting some Sebille in a forest wearing a dress that’s way too fancy for the location. Haha. I needed a really Finnish scenery for this dress because it really reminds me of Finland (esp. our flag), and I’d had this place in mind for a while. I just needed a really sunny day for this. Usually I like to shoot when it’s cloudy, but this forest really looks best when it’s sunny, because the trees don’t let in a whole lot of light.
I’m really liking this shoot. It’s not amazing and I forgot my reflector so I had to do more editing that would’ve been necessary. But I had fun since it was the first proper shoot I’ve had in months (really slow doll-photography summer for me). I do like the light and colours and theme here. And Sebille is still one of my favorite dolls. ♥ ♥
This dress will be in my Etsy very soon, along with a small update of tops and shirts.
Alright, so I went through the other flower photos too, and edited a few of them. I took these on June 8th. Taking grey skinned dolls to a location with a lot of green is not very flattering, I know this, and yet I still took two of them there, what is wrong with me? These are not amazing, but at least there are flowers? (I’m trying very hard to ignore those damn dandelions, too.)
I’ve completely forgotten to post these (mostly because they’re repetitive). We had a local meet up at the apple tree park in Kuokkala on June 11. There were snacks and plenty of people and dolls around, as well as some annoying disruptions (drone flyers >_>*). However, since we were at a shooting location, most of everyone spent time taking photos of their own dolls and occasionally gathering in the middle to talk. We didn’t take a group photo, but there were a ton of different skin colours, sizes and types of dolls around. :3 I think I only had DDs + Avis with me but because of the lighting conditions, didn’t manage much photos.
I also have some photos from the days before, when I went with Mizya to check out the stage of blooming, but I’m not sure if I’ve even edited those (I need to check them out and post if there’s anything worth posting). It was too sunny all through the blooming season and thus hard to photograph dolls.
These are all different colours because they had to be edited a lot. =__=
I completely forgot to post these from a while ago. I’ve been writing an alternate reality story for Sebille and Null on and off for a few years already and a few weeks ago I got inspiration and got back to it again. I added quite a few chapters to it this time and I think I’m at about 20 chapters and 80-ish pages. I feel accomplished because it’s in two parts and last time I was more inspired to work on the second part, but this time I was able to add some important missing chapters to the first part. :3
I actually have a lot of different alternate reality stories for these two characters because I love them, but this is closest to the storyline I have in photo story form. Only most of it happens at Null’s mansion which has never been seen in photo stories because, well, props. =__=;; Also the initial setting is different and there are tweaks to their past, but the characters are pretty much all the same.
Anyway, due to the writing I felt the need to photograph these two together. They’re less of a pain to pose now that at least Sebille is more stable, but Null still gives me heart-attacks. x_o I also had Seb’s eyes positioned a little weirdly so she’s a bit blank looking but oh well. She’s the hardest to position eyes for out of all my dolls because they’re so big. I do think she’d benefit from eyes that have an iris that’s 1mm bigger but really, I’m not risking it anymore. Over the years, I’ve bought her a ton of eyes and I think I’ve finally found the right colour, size and quality combo, so better not mess with that.
My spring tradition continues. Last year I took Iria to this location and now it’s Sigrun again for a second time. Out of necessity. I’d like to take a doll I haven’t taken there before but I didn’t have a fitting new outfit for anyone else. Hexia would’ve been nice to take because she’s my newest full doll, but I like there to be a long dress or something for this location and she doesn’t do dresses. I should make her some sort of a leathe-badass-warrior outfit set with a hem or something, but I need to design that first. But maybe next year. Her colours would fit right in. While with Sigrun I had to alter the colour tone quite a bit because she only works cold tones well.
I had completely forgotten what an absolute pain she is to shoot outside. For whatever reason it’s really hard to focus on her face, so it tends to be blurry a lot. However, it might’ve been a little easier today since I touched up her face up a few days ago, as it had faded a lot. I also have only once managed to reflect light into her eyes properly -despite a reflector setup. Indoors it’s a lot easier but outside they just tend to be dark blobs, although they’re gorgeous in person. And let’s not even talk about her neck doing whatever it wants although I’ve sueded it. Sigh. I should also re-string her arms. But well, she’s certainly not the hardest doll to work with that I own, but it’s just outside she’s a pain. Indoor photos of her are so much easier.
Okay, I don’t think I’ve introduced my newest girl here yet, although I got her head like last year already. I’ve had a lot of trouble with her and it’s still not all resolved. I love her character (she’s from mine and Mizya’s RP) and the Souldoll Jina head is pretty accurate for her after a few mods. She could be more smiley but trying to find a certain kind of looking Asian female head that smiles is near impossible. Oasisdoll has a lot of smiley girls but unfortunately none of them suit Ye Rin’s features, so here we are.
She’s currently on Iria’s idiotic body which is not helping me any. Despite all the mods on the body, it’s annoying to handle and the super long model legs are really not doing good things for my human characters -with the fantasy ones I don’t really care. Plus her hands are just… ugh (=stupid-ass finger poses you can do nothing with). They’re fine for Iria but not for Ye Rin. Zeniths also have giant feet so I can’t get any appropriate shoes for her (she likes shoes a lot).
Other than the body issues, I’ve had problems with her face up (fixed parts of it but might need to be completely re-done), wig and eyes. I first had her with a temporary fiber wig and that was just horrible, though I managed to make it decent with some styling. But yeah, it wasn’t right at all. I ordered her a custom one and now my main problem is that it looks nice in person but in photos it just looks like a frizzy black blob. But I can’t exactly give her a lighter wig because her hair is black. The problem with the eyes is pretty much the same and I have to brighten them tons afterwards. I might just solve that problem by getting her lighter brown eyes. They’ll make her more expressive, even though they’re not 100% right for the character. Gotta make compromises, I guess.
I am hoping I’d be able to afford to order her a body some time this year because I have some expensive things on preorder later this year, so I’d need to conjure up some hobby money from somewhere. It also has several months of a wait time and I have no idea if it’ll match her skin tone well, but… all of my hybrids are kind of risks and they’ve worked out. Really, I tend to buy them with the research and mindset of “Well, company Y matches my head and X matches Y, so they ought to be close. The shoulder width is about the same as company Z too, okay, we’ll go with that”.
This is the end result right now. With a lot of editing afterwards to get the eyes to show up as something other than black pits. She has kind of too much eyeliner for her character too, but I’m not yet sure if I wanna re-do the face. Cause like I said before: I don’t like painting at the moment. I’d rather try lighter eyes before re-doing the face up. She should also be more smiley, but I can’t do much more with the sculpt.
Hi, I’ve been a little quiet lately. Break from dolls, break from sewing. No break from painting dolls though, but it’s going sinfully slow and I’m really ashamed about it. But hopefully I’ll have most of the commissions done in a week or so, as long as the weather cooperates.
Anyway, it snowed the other morning so I rushed outside for a few fresh snow snapshots with Hexia (because she was convenient). Nothing special but got me off my ass and outside for a good 20 minutes at least.
I got Sebille a new body from Withdoll a few weeks ago. It’s a great fit, and I love that she can now wear different styles of clothing too, because of the differently shaped torso and no more bulging thigh joints. Unfortunately her legs lost a lot of shape, though, and are a lot thinner, which is making her shoes look bigger on her (thin ankles, grr). But overall I’m very happy. It’s much more stable than her old body, too. I’ve even been inspired to sew her some new stuff. :3
She would need a new face up, though, because her face is kind of grey-ish, thanks to the old MSC layers, but I’m just kind of scared of re-doing it, because it’s perfect the way it is right now. And I’m definitely not feeling face ups currently. I have a several of my own dolls I would need to paint, but before I can even think about them, I need to finish a pile of commissions (so sorry I’m being slow!!). I think I will also like to sand her neck a bit to make it thinner -just to match her old looks a bit more. Otherwise the body is quite good. I’m waiting for it to yellow a little to match even better. :D I put her old body for sale in the selling pages for cheaps.
I took this first photo the day I got her together again, and the rest are from today. I got her a new pair of shoes (to share with my DDs) from Nine9Style and there was this awesome doll sized magazine in the box too. Actually, even the package is doll scale, so I used it as is for these photos. xD
“Kilbas was on his way to his home cave from having spent several months on official business in a different dimension, and decided that this was as good a place as any to rest, before continuing onwards. He was traveling light: just his weapons, better clothes, waterskin and a bear hide for warmth. It was all he needed to survive in this harsh winter wilderness.”
I couldn’t resist. It’s been a while since I put any effort into photography, but I got this fur piece from mizya yesterday and it’s been snowing non-stop since last night, so the weather was great for photos, too. And I’ve had this photo idea for a while now. If I had winter gear for some of my other dolls, I would’ve made it into a photostory. But nope, not this time. Maybe some day I’ll find good fantasy appropriate winter fabrics that inspire me to sew for… well almost everyone needs winter gear.
I forced myself to go outside for some overdue winter photos yesterday. It was a nice Sunday so it had to be done. I’m not feeling very inspired despite the nice weather, but I did have a good time at least and it resulted in some decent photos. I should work on her new headdress and do some airbrushing, since I bought more paints on Saturday, but I haven’t gotten to those yet. Slowly, but surely…
Sorry they’re a bit repetitive. I should really take more than one doll out at once, but it’s more hassle and I don’t really have many I could take. Unless I continued my stories, but they’d require some creative solutions. x_x
Hi, it’s been a while since I’ve taken photos of my dolls. Or really done much with them. The end of the year was slow time for me regards to the hobby. I didn’t even get to make use of the holidays sales most companies had, because the company I wanted a doll from did release what I wanted, but refused to add another colour option, so I didn’t get my Cin. I’ve been waiting for a re-release of that doll for 3 years, and nope. Probably have to wait 3 more. Sucks, because the gender balance of my collection is really off right now, and I’d need more guys. Nox needs a body, but so do some of my girls (mosly Ye Rin, but I haven’t done research for her yet). I’d also love to re-shell Lilya (again) because Souldoll released a face that’s quite perfect for her and the head is probably, maybe, smaller than her current head. Which would save my ass. Unfortunately they won’t sell the head separately, but they do sell the body (Vito), so splitting it is probably useless. Sigh. Vito is waaay too tall for her and completely the wrong shape. Her current body is already too tall (46-47cm), so 50cm? No!
My only doll related activity as of late is re-painting Yami. I was never happy with her face up because I just originally painted her as quickly as possible in order to have her all together. Then, I was too lazy to fix her. I’m still not happy with the face because I ended up rushing it, but I do think it’s better than before. Character wise.
Since she has a new face, I took some photos of her. The lighting is bad, with stupid shadows on her face, but at least she works artificial lights decently. Most of my dolls don’t.
